I lived in this shikumen house from the day I was born until I got married. It was demolished in 2014, leaving behind almost no photographs—only memories that were slowly beginning to fade. This house was more than where I grew up. It held decades of my family’s life: my parents’ stories, my childhood, our neighbors, and countless ordinary moments that became precious only after the house was gone. Recreating it brought many of those memories back. When I could finally walk through the house again—through the courtyard, up the old stairs, and along the familiar corridors—it felt, for a moment, like going home. Everhome didn’t just bring back a house. It gave a part of my family’s past a place to live again.
